Cleansing – Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps

Hello Lovlies!!

I’m back!! Today, I will start by introducing you to some of my staple products that I use to nourish my tresses. It is not easy finding products for curly hair like mine in Austria – the European market is just not aimed at catering to the needs of coarse curls. However, I have found quite a few brands during the course of my transition period that I would love to share with you!

Today will be dedicated to the cleansing hair care products that I use in my curl hair routine. According to the Curly Girl Handbook, we as curly girls should refrain from “cleansing” our hair every day. I know, this sounds strange and you might be asking yourselves how to get rid of the build up during the week. To understand these methods, one needs to distinguish between “cleansing” and “co-washing”. Plainly stated, “cleansing” is when a sulfate-free shampoo is used and “co-washing” is when solely a botanical conditioner is used for the cleansing process. However, I will go into depth about this in a different posting.

The products that I have found to work for my curls are from the Dr. Bronner’s brand and called “Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps”. They are packed with natural ingredients that nourish the hair and scalp. There are a variety of scents to choose from. I have tested the Citrus Orange and Peppermint ones. When I do cleanse my hair, which is every 10 days or so, I use these soaps as I would a conventional shampoo. They do not strip the hair strands from their natural oils and leave the hair feeling clean and refreshed.

Recently, I have come across the Dr. Bronner’s Shikakai Soap which is primarily recommended as a body wash or a hand cleanser. When I need deep cleansing, I tend to use the latter because the gentle and luxurious cleansing agents leave my hair feeling moisturised and strengthened, due to its gentle conditioning, cleansing properties. It is recommended that when this cleanser is used for cleansing hair, a vinegar-water rinse is needed thereafter, which in my opinion, removes the remaining dirt and residue from the scalp and the hair.

All the Dr. Bronner’s products may be found at Martin reformstark health stores, and more recently at Ecco Verde, a webshop dedicated to selling purely natural products for the skin, hair, body, as well as cosmetics. What’s great about these products is that there are travel sizes available so you can purchase these and see whether you will love it as much as I do 😉

That’s it from me my lovelies. I will be back soon with more great reviews for you soon!

Stay beautiful

Yours truly,

Courtney xx
