Fav Four of 2014

I have tried and tested an array of products during the course of last year. Some started off fantastic and after a few weeks of use, ended up having an adverse effect on my curls, which could be due to my curl pattern having changed over the last couple of months. However, the next four products have been doing the trick since more or less the start of my transition.

There was a big hype about the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie when I started researching natural hair and what products to use. I have read and listened to so many views and reviews about this product that I decided it should be one of my first purchases. It cost a pretty penny but boy it does the job brilliantly!! The thick texture of this cream envelopes my curls so beautifully, keeping it moisturised and soft to the touch. It’s fantastic fragrance just adds to its benefits. Enriched with silk protein and neem oil, coconut and hibiscus creates gorgeous shine, while reducing frizz and providing the hair with the moisture and softness that it needs. This will definitely be a staple in my collection of hair care products for a long time!

The Kinky Curly Knot Today Natural Leave-In/Detangler was not my favourite in the beginning, mainly because when using it to style my hair, it would leave it feeling very sticky and stiff. I tried playing around with the quantities but it was just not working for me. However, now I use it as a detangler in the shower when I co-wash and it is the BOMB diggerty!! When applying this product to soaking wet hair, it makes finger detangling a breeze. It is enriched with herbal extracts such as mango fruit, marshmallow root and lemongrass, leaving the hair feeling wonderfully smooth. This is a definite must-have for those detangling sessions!

I have been searching high and low for a cost effective, daily conditioner to use that contained natural ingredients. Most products on the market here in Austria cost a fortune, especially knowing that, as a curly girl, one needs a ton – yes a TON – of conditioner to maintain naturally curly hair. While browsing through videos on YouTube, I a blogger that I follow mentioned the EO Pure Performance Botanical Hair Care line in a video. What got me to actually purchase this line of products was the fact that they are all natural, cheap and, according to reviews, worked as well, if not better, than some high end brands that I have been using at the time. The EO Sulfate-Free Conditioner with keratin is literally every curly girl’s dream. My hair has benefited so much from using this line of products. This specific conditioner contains key botanical ingredients such as keratin, avocado, jojoba, coconut, argan oils, aloe vera, chamomile and calendula extracts and they all work to smooth, soften, hydrate, fortify and condition the hair. I have not found any other conditioner that is able to give me the results that I have achieved by using EO conditioners – and that’s a FACT!

And last but not least, good ol’ virgin, unrefined and 100% organic coconut oil has made styling my curls a pleasure! There are so many benefits to using coconut oil: helps reduce protein loss, helps restore hair and prevent hair damage, conditions hair, nourishes dry hair, minimises spilt ends, and the list goes on and on. I use coconut oil as a sealer, as well as adding it to my restoring hair treatments and detangling before cleansing my hair. Coconut oil is a genuine must-have!
